2018 Top Five

Last year the top five books that I read were all either from or about CS Lewis. Once you discover an author who speaks to your soul you find yourself wanting to read everything he or she’s ever written just to see where the path leads.

Another one of those for me is Dutch priest Henri Nouwen. Nouwen, who passed away in 1996, writes from a place of sincerity and draws from a deep well of psychology, pastoral ministry, spirituality, social justice, and Christian community.

And so while there are 42 books from Nouwen’s pen in total and could easily fall into the category, the following are the 2018 top five:

Reaching Out: The Three Movements of the Spiritual Life

The Inner Voice of Love: A Journey from Anguish to Freedom

Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World

The Way of the Heart: Connecting with God through Prayer, Wisdom, and Silence

and

Show Me the Way: Readings for Each Day of Lent

There are certainly other works from Nouwen that could be on this list. Anything from him is a wellspring detailing formative discipleship.

His books “The Wounded Healer,” “Compassion: A Reflection on the Christian Life,” and “The Return of the Prodigal Son” are must reads as well (I just didn’t read them this year). 😉

Glory to God!

Jason
