Subversive Spirituality is what Augsburger defines as “dissident discipleship” (hence the title of the book).
“Dissident” entails disagreement. The premise of the book, culminating in the final chapter is that much of what we think is discipleship is nothing more than a shallow attempt at religiosity. Nothing in comparison with knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and nothing in comparison with the radical answering of the radical call of Jesus to “come and follow me.”
The practice of Dissident Discipleship is the complete answering of the radical call of Christ.
Dissident Discipleship encounters Christ in all aspects of the believer’s life.
It is the complete and total transformation that only the Gospel brings about.
It is total surrender and total abandonment to the cause of Christ.
It is Jesus Christ living and incarnate in the life of those who hail Him as Lord.
But… is it what we are about?
Glory to God!
